MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The International Ecotourism Society of the Philippines Inc. (TIESPHI) continues to strengthen its international tourism network through an engagement with Ms. Tan Mei Phing, Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), exploring opportunities for deeper collaboration in Malaysia’s business events and tourism sector.
The engagement represents a promising opportunity to develop a Malaysia–Philippines Ecotourism & Sustainable MICE Partnership, bringing together shared interests in sustainable business events, ecotourism, biodiversity conservation, community-based tourism, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As the tourism and business events industries continue to evolve, the need for more responsible, inclusive, and environmentally conscious approaches has become increasingly important. Through stronger regional partnerships, tourism organizations and industry stakeholders can exchange knowledge, develop innovative approaches, and create opportunities that contribute to long-term destination sustainability.
For TIESPHI, the proposed partnership provides an avenue to connect the Philippines and Malaysia through shared priorities in responsible tourism, sustainable MICE development, environmental stewardship, biodiversity protection, and community empowerment.
The potential collaboration recognizes that sustainable tourism is not limited to environmental protection. It also encompasses the participation and empowerment of local communities, the preservation of cultural and natural heritage, responsible economic development, and the creation of meaningful experiences for visitors.
The proposed Malaysia–Philippines partnership also seeks to explore how the business events industry can contribute to sustainable development. Through responsible meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions, the MICE sector can become a platform for knowledge exchange, international cooperation, community engagement, and environmental awareness.
Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the envisioned collaboration can provide opportunities to connect tourism and business events with broader efforts toward inclusive economic growth, sustainable communities, environmental protection, responsible consumption, and international partnerships.
The engagement with Ms. Tan Mei Phing marks another step in TIESPHI’s continuing efforts to build bridges across borders and connect tourism organizations, destinations, communities, and industry leaders around a common vision for sustainable development.
While the partnership remains an opportunity for further exploration and discussion, the shared vision provides a strong foundation for future collaboration between Malaysia and the Philippines.
From connections to collaboration, from ideas to action, and from shared aspirations to sustainable opportunities—TIESPHI looks forward to building bridges that help shape a greener, more responsible, and more inclusive future for tourism and business events.
