Birmingham and West Midlands Convention Bureau and TIESPHI Explore Partnership for Sustainable Tourism

November 18, 2025 – The Birmingham and West Midlands Convention Bureau and The International Ecotourism Society Philippines (TIESPHI) took a significant step towards a greener future for tourism today, as Linda Best, Strategic Lead for Events and Business Tourism, led a discussion focused on potential collaborations to enhance sustainable ecotourism within the sector. The central question guiding the conversation: How can the two organizations partner to safeguard the environment while fostering responsible ecotourism practices?
The meeting underscored a shared commitment to aligning the Birmingham and West Midlands Convention Bureau’s sustainability goals with TIESPHI’s expertise in promoting environmentally conscious ecotourism practices. Ms. Best emphasized the region’s dedication to minimizing its environmental footprint and its eagerness to learn from TIESPHI’s successful initiatives around the globe.
Instead of a simple exchange of pleasantries, the discussion delved into concrete strategies for collaboration. Both parties explored opportunities for knowledge exchange, envisioning a future where insights and strategies for implementing effective sustainability programs are shared across various ecotourism sectors. Joint initiatives aimed at reducing waste, conserving energy, and promoting responsible resource management were also on the table, promising tangible improvements in environmental performance.
The potential for sustainable marketing also emerged as a key area of interest. Both organizations recognized the power of joint marketing campaigns to showcase eco-friendly ecotourism options and attract environmentally conscious travelers, creating a virtuous cycle of demand for sustainable practices.

Furthermore, the discussion touched on the importance of community engagement, with both parties expressing a desire to work together to support local communities and preserve cultural heritage while minimizing environmental impact.
The meeting concluded with a strong sense of optimism, as both parties expressed keen interest in forging a lasting partnership that would benefit both regions and contribute to global sustainability efforts. Further discussions are already planned to explore specific projects and initiatives that can be implemented in the near future, signaling a concrete commitment to action.
This potential partnership represents more than just a symbolic gesture; it has the potential to set a new standard for sustainable ecotourism, demonstrating how collaboration and shared commitment can lead to meaningful environmental protection and responsible tourism practices worldwide.
