The International Ecotourism Society Philippines Incorporated Champions “Be Kind to Animals Month” This May

We proudly joins the observance of Be Kind to Animals Month this May with a nationwide awareness campaign dedicated to promoting compassion, humane treatment, and responsible care for animals in all communities.

Observed every May, Be Kind to Animals Month serves as an important reminder that kindness toward animals reflects the values of empathy, respect, and responsibility that shape a more compassionate society. Through this campaign, TIESPHI aims to encourage the public to recognize that every act of care—whether toward domestic pets, stray animals, farm animals, or wildlife—plays a meaningful role in creating safer communities and a more humane world.

As part of this month-long advocacy, TIESPHI is calling on individuals, families, schools, local government units, youth organizations, and community leaders to take part in simple yet impactful actions that promote animal welfare. These include providing clean food and water to stray animals, supporting local shelters and rescue groups, choosing adoption over buying pets, reporting cases of neglect and cruelty, and helping create safer environments where animals are protected and treated with dignity.

“Be Kind to Animals Month is a powerful reminder that compassion must extend beyond people and into the lives of every living being we share this world with,” said a representative of The International Ecotourism Society. “The way we treat animals reflects the kind of society we are building. Kindness to animals teaches empathy, strengthens communities, and reinforces our shared responsibility to protect life in all its forms.”

TIESPHI emphasizes that animal welfare is not only a moral responsibility but also a critical part of building sustainable and environmentally responsible communities. Animals—whether as companions, protectors of biodiversity, contributors to agriculture, or vital parts of natural ecosystems—deserve humane treatment and protection. Acts of cruelty, neglect, abandonment, and habitat destruction not only harm animals but also weaken the balance between communities and nature.

Throughout May, TIESPHI will promote a series of digital awareness initiatives and public education efforts designed to inspire more compassionate action for animals. These efforts will highlight the importance of responsible pet ownership, humane treatment of strays, support for rescue and rehabilitation, and respect for animals in both urban and rural environments. The campaign also seeks to raise awareness about the growing need for stronger community involvement in animal welfare, especially in protecting vulnerable and abandoned animals.

A key message of the campaign is that kindness to animals begins with everyday choices. Offering water to a stray animal during hot weather, supporting local rescue organizations, refusing animal cruelty in any form, and teaching children to treat animals gently are small but meaningful acts that create lasting impact. TIESPHI believes these daily acts of compassion help build a culture where kindness becomes part of community life.

This year’s campaign also highlights the strong connection between animal welfare and environmental stewardship. Protecting animals means protecting habitats, preserving biodiversity, and promoting coexistence between people and nature. As an organization committed to sustainability and responsible living, TIESPHI recognizes that caring for animals is an essential part of caring for the environment itself.

By observing Be Kind to Animals Month, TIESPHI hopes to inspire across the globe to become active advocates for humane treatment and compassionate coexistence. The organization believes that building kinder communities begins with recognizing that animals, like people, deserve safety, care, and respect.

This May, The International Ecotourism Society invites everyone to take part in Be Kind to Animals Month by choosing compassion, supporting animal welfare, and becoming a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. Through collective action and everyday kindness, we can create communities that are not only more humane for animals, but better for all living beings.
